Definitely agree on the re-framing.  Instead of "I can't believe I didn't see this" I learned to say "I can't believe how much work he must have put into keeping this secret from me".  It takes the blame off of me and puts it where it belongs.

Here's a link to the op-ed that walkby and OoHC are referring to. Hopefully you can still access the comments.  It stings a bit to read how the betrayer is viewed by society versus the betrayed, but it was the kind of honesty I really needed in those early post discovery years.
