I woke up this morning to the thought that yes the male female split in humans is all over the place, no doubt about that. Does this make our sexuality fluid tho? No, it doesn't seem to, not as an individual it doesn't. That isn't what we experience, is it. I can go to sleep with confidence that I am not going to wake up as a lesbian one morning. Let alone wake up as a man, gay or straight.

If you view humanity as one vast being then yes it is all over the place, but on an individual level it doesn't seem to be that way at all. Sure it develops as we mature right through our lives, but it doesn't change quarters.

I know this is true for straights but it also looks to me to be true for all of us, including bisexuals - I mean does anyone know anybody who really has gone from having same sex attraction to not having it?

Fluidity....
A modern word to fit into the language of authenticity, and the ever-increasing acknowledgement
of the right of those who see themselves as Fluid....to be who they want to be?

Better than calling themselves fickle or unsettled I suppose

yes, it is a modern term. An idea that has gained steam along with the Kinsey scale - Alfred Kinsey is known to have sought treatment for his 'homoerotic urges' as a young man, not that it stopped him from getting married and having 4 children.

I don't deny it is descriptive of how he felt about his personal experience at that time in his life, but to extrapolate it out to being relevant to everyone? It doesn't really hang together in the face of experience or logic.

It's horrible living where you can't be yourself. To me the idea of fluidity is part of the closet, the very stuff it's made of. Everybody has to be a bit fluid? believing that is to put a wedge between your thinking and your instinctive understanding.
